Privacy policy
This is a personal site: a page that tells you who I am and what I do. It doesn't sell anything, has no forms to fill in, and doesn't install cookies. Some data still passes through here, though, and this page says what, why, and for how long.
Who handles the data
The data controller is Matteo Vitale, Rome, Italy. For anything about this policy or your data: matteo.vitale03@gmail.com.
Cookies: none
The site installs no cookies and doesn't use the browser's storage to recognize or track you. That's why you see no consent banner: there's nothing to consent to. If I ever add something that writes to your device — an embedded video, a map, a chat — a banner would appear and this page would be updated first.
What's handled anyway
- Technical browsing data. To deliver this page, the computer hosting it inevitably receives your IP address, browser and device type, and the page requested with date and time. These are used to run the site and protect it from abuse. The legal basis is the legitimate interest in providing and defending the service. They are kept for the technical time necessary, under the hosting provider's policies.
- Aggregate visit statistics. I use Cloudflare Web Analytics to know how many people arrive and from where — typically from LinkedIn — and with what kind of device. It's a cookieless, fingerprint-free tool: it produces overall counts and doesn't allow tracing back to a person or following them from one site to another. The legal basis is the legitimate interest in knowing whether what I write reaches anyone.
- Emails you send me. The "Get in touch" button opens your own mail program: nothing passes through the site. If you decide to write to me, I process your address and the content of your message in order to reply, and I keep them for as long as the correspondence makes sense.
Who else sees it
Cloudflare, Inc. hosts the site, delivers it through its own network and provides the statistics: it acts as a data processor on my behalf. Being a company based in the United States, data may be processed outside the European Union, with the safeguards the GDPR requires for international transfers. Email passes through Google, the provider of the mailbox I use.
No one else. I don't sell, share or trade data with anyone, and there is no advertising or profiling.
Links to other sites
The GitHub, LinkedIn and Instagram pages reachable from here belong to others: once you open them, their own policies apply, not this one. No request to them leaves this site until you click.
Your rights
You can ask me to access your data, correct it, delete it, restrict its use, or object to its processing, and you can ask to receive it in a readable format. Just write to the address above. If you think something isn't right, you can contact the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali (the Italian Data Protection Authority).
